Dabeli - Evening Snack - Dabeli Recipe

 Hi foodies,

Dabeli is a very popular Gujarati street food snack. It is made with pav bread and stuffed with a unique masala. It is very similar to Vada pav, except the fact that vada pav has vada in between and dabeli has a patty like stuffing.

Dabeli is usually eaten as an evening snack, along with tea and coffee. It is known for its unique taste and flavours. So let's get started!

Dabeli Recipe

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 20 minutes

Serves: 4 people

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 5 pav
  • 3 potatoes (boiled and mashed)
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 5 tbsp tamarind (imli) chutney
  • 5 tbsp chana chutney
  • 1 cup pomegranate
  • 2 tbsp masala peanuts
  • 2 tbsp coriander (finely cut)
  • 5 tbsp sev
  • 1/2 tsp pepper powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp amchur powder
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • Butter for roasting
  • Salt as per taste

Method:

1. In a bowl, mix the potatoes, onion, pomegranate, masala peanuts, coriander, pepper powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, amchur powder, sev and chilli powder.

2. Form patties of the dabeli masala mixture made above.

3. Slit the pav bread in the centre. Spread tamarind chutney on one side of the pav and chana chutney on the other side.

4. Place the patties formed in Step 2 in between the pav.

5. Now toast the pav bread in butter, making sure that both the sides turn slightly brown.

6. Your dabeli is ready to serve. You can top it with extra sev if you like.

Notes-

1. Be careful in selecting a fresh and soft pav bread.

2. You can use toppings or chutneys of your choice.

3. The dabeli mixture formed in Step 1, stays fresh for 3-4 days, when refrigerated.

I hope you guys enjoy savouring this dish like the other snacks. You can also use garlic chutney or coriander chutney, if chana chutney is not available. Potatoes is the core ingredient of dabeli masala mix, so ensure that you set the flavours right.

Having a balanced diet is also very crucial these days. I hope you all know about the benefits of banana by now. At Savour with Sakshi, I'll keep sharing more such easy recipes. Stay tuned!

Yours foodly,

Sakshi
