How to make Buttermilk - A Colourful Perspective
Hi Foodies!
I got some very interesting answers to the question posed in my previous post regarding what comes to your mind when you think of the word 'Summer'? Many people said that they think of the cool and rejuvenating drinks. It reminded me of Buttermilk, or Chaas, as we popularly call it. So do you want to know how to make buttermilk, which is more pleasing to the eyes? Then continue reading!
Most of you might already know how to make buttermilk (even if you don't, no worries). But does buttermilk always have to be simply white and boring? No! So, I thought of giving it a colourful perspective.
Buttermilk is not only a refreshing drink but also aids in digestion. In India, its almost like a tradition to have buttermilk everyday, especially in this season of scorching heat. Having buttermilk, helps in balancing the overall temperature of the body. I've always been fond of colours and thus decided to slightly tweak my mother's traditional buttermilk recipe.

Notes-
- You may boil the beetroot and use, for enhanced taste.
- Use the leftover beetroot for making beetroot hummus.
- Remains fresh for 1-2 days (keep it in refrigerator)
- Store it in glass or steel containers only.
There are many other benefits of buttermilk. Unlike other popular summer coolers, this drink requires no additional sugar, and thus is healthy. This drink is also known as Mor, Mooru, Majige and Ghol, in different parts of India.
Do try this simple and easy drink to re-hydrate yourself and let me know your reviews in the comments section. Stay tuned to Savour with Sakshi, for more amazing recipes.

Deletecan't we simply use curd. Is it makes any diffrence ?
ReplyDeleteYou can simply use curd, water and salt, to make the regular buttermilk. If you are looking to enhance flavours, then use cumin powder, chilly and ginger as well. However, beetroot and mint l, as shown in this post have their own contribution to health as well as colour of the drink. It's all a play of flavours!
DeleteLooks good, I will try it. Great post keep it up
